What is NDIS Specialised Driver Training?

NDIS Specialised Driver Training provides individualised driving instruction for participants whose disability impacts their ability to learn to drive or drive safely. Delivered by experienced, qualified instructors with additional expertise in disability support, this training goes beyond standard lessons.

It is funded under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living and requires a recommendation from a driver-trained Occupational Therapist (OT) assessment. Training can include learning to operate modified vehicles or using adaptive equipment.

Is standard driving lessons the same as specialised driver training?

No. Specialised training uses instructors experienced with disabilities, tailored methods, and often modified vehicles or adaptive techniques. Standard lessons generally do not qualify for NDIS funding in the same way.

Do I need a modified vehicle?

Not always. Many participants learn in standard dual-control vehicles initially. If modifications are recommended, we provide training on their safe use.

How many lessons will I need?

Can I use my own vehicle?
