Specialised Driver Training

At Nationwide Asset Management, we are proud to offer high-quality Specialised Driver Training as an approved NDIS provider. This service helps NDIS participants build the skills, confidence, and independence needed to drive safely, access their community, pursue employment, education, and social opportunities.

Driving represents freedom and autonomy. For many people with disability, standard driving lessons do not meet their unique needs. Our specialised program delivers tailored, patient, and professional instruction designed around your specific goals, abilities, and challenges.

Overview

What is NDIS Specialised Driver Training?

NDIS Specialised Driver Training provides individualised driving instruction for participants whose disability impacts their ability to learn to drive or drive safely. Delivered by experienced, qualified instructors with additional expertise in disability support, this training goes beyond standard lessons.

It is funded under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living and requires a recommendation from a driver-trained Occupational Therapist (OT) assessment. Training can include learning to operate modified vehicles or using adaptive equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is standard driving lessons the same as specialised driver training?

No. Specialised training uses instructors experienced with disabilities, tailored methods, and often modified vehicles or adaptive techniques. Standard lessons generally do not qualify for NDIS funding in the same way.

Do I need a modified vehicle?

Not always. Many participants learn in standard dual-control vehicles initially. If modifications are recommended, we provide training on their safe use.

How many lessons will I need?

This varies widely based on your starting point, disability impact, and learning goals. We provide realistic estimates after initial assessment.

Can I use my own vehicle?

In many cases, yes — especially once modifications (if needed) are fitted and approved.

What if I already have a licence but need retraining?

We offer adaptive training for licensed drivers returning to or adjusting their driving.
